Upcycling is the process of taking an item that would normally end up in the trash and turning it into something useful. Upcycled art is the newest green trend. We take materials that are destined for a landfill and turn them into jewelry or paintings or other wonderful works of art. The realm of possibilities are endless.
Upcycling is different from recycling in that items are transformed, rather than melted down and reused. Here is an example:
These are bamboo tiles that have been cut apart from a mat and painted and decoupaged and turned into mini works of art.
Another great idea is turning an old cd into a mini wall hanging. These are made from paper decoupaged with sayings:

I’ve been going to town lately making hand rolled paper beads. These are surprisingly very durable and especiall beautiful. You never know what the finished product will look like….. and what’s better than lowering your carbon footprint?
